To enable individuals who are at risk of, or involved in criminal activity to reduce their offending behaviour, improve their life options and participate positively in the community.

The work of the AP is overseen by a voluntary Board of Management, whose numbers are drawn from statutory and community agencies as well as the business sector. We are funded by The Probation Service, and we are also supported by the Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board through the provision of teaching hours.
We cater for male/female individuals in Kildare, Laois, and Carlow under supervision from The Probation Service. Also, people appearing on charges before the Courts.
Individuals are primarily in the 18 – 35 age range, a sizable number of whom are early school leavers with little to no employment history, coupled with substance use difficulties.
We accept people who are released from Prison on the Community Return Scheme. This Scheme is an incentivised scheme for the supervised release of qualifying prisoners who complete unpaid community work as a condition of their early release.
We work with people released under the Community Support Scheme, this is a Scheme developed in collaboration with the Probation Service in response to prison overcrowding and aims to address the recidivism levels of prisoners serving sentences of between 3 and 12 months.
The project offers a range of interventions with tiered entry levels that take account of the individual’s ability to engage. Learning Hours (per week) 12 – 16 Hours for those in the Life Skills Programme. Involvement in a range of non-curriculum-based taster modules affording individuals the opportunity to acquire practical life skills and expand their capacity.
It was a pleasure to host Mark Wilson (Director of Probation Service) and Yvette Kelly (Probation Service) at the project today. It gave us a great opportunity to express our appreciation for the ongoing support we receive from the Probation Service.

The agency operates from rented premises in Nelson Street, Athy since 2005. In relation to regional work, room space is provided by the Probation Service in Portlaoise and Newbridge and rented by the hour in the Cathedral Parish Centre in Carlow as needed.
The agency is in receipt of funding for running costs from The Probation Service/Dept of Justice and teaching hours from Kildare Wicklow Education & Training Board.
